In 1903, the Darke County Historical Society's predecessor, the Greenville Historical Society, was founded. Its original mission included the study of local history, securing a memorial to commemorate the Treaty of Greene Ville, and the collection, preservation, and exhibition of local historic artifacts. As the Society evolved, so did its collections housed at the Garst Museum. Featuring exhibits and artifacts of national significance, the Garst Museum has grown to become an important institution for the region. The Darke County Historical Society owes it success to a legion of dedicated volunteers and donors.
Our new website is an effort to expand our outreach to the Darke County community and to address the needs found outside of the Garst Museum's scope. Our goals for the future include addressing the community’s needs and interests in historic preservation, agriculture and the rural landscape, our small towns past and present, motorsports, and so much more! We look forward to engaging the community in understanding and preserving our past.
